TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

It's Finals night here at Angle Park and tonight we have the running of the 2024 SA Oaks (race 6) and it has turned out to be an absolute ripper on paper, there are a heap of chances and I went with the widest runner Sooty Keeping out in box 8 as my selection, my fingers will be crossed hoping she can avoid any trouble and skip away and claim the $25.000 to the winners purse. Bun Storm along with Apilla are chances as is Flying Envy who ran a BON 30.37 here last week, Zinfandel Trace can lead and they won’t run her down if she does but you can’t tip them all.

Race 8 is the 2024 SA Derby Final and I will stick with Hot Ashes who won here in 30.40, he loves the wide draws and looks hard to beat again. Iconic Jet is drawn to be on the pace early from box 2 as is Zeberiah trained by Kirin Corby, he has the perfect record of four straight wins here. both events are perfect First Four races to have a crack at.

The second heat was won by the SA trained Zeberiah for Kirin Corby who kept his unbeaten run intact when he sprinted powerfully over the concluding stages to claim victory in a strong 30.53. The fastest qualifier for the series came in the final heat when Victorian Hot Ashes for trainer Vicki Wisner lead throughout in a slick 30.40 for the 530m journey.

SOLO TRIALS TONIGHT IN PREPARATION FOR SPRING CHASING CARNIVAL
Tonight we have three solo trials in preparation for our Spring Chasing Carnival to be run in between our races.

After the running of race 1 tonight, In The Hub for trainer David Crawford will trial over 530m. He is a winner of 18 of his 38 starts and prizemoney around $86k and a last start winner at Sandown over 515m in 29.29. He has brilliant early speed so should run some quick sectionals.

After race 2 we will see Xile Bale trial for local trainer Robyn Mackellar. He has been in great form recently at headquarters however there was no high grade race on the program after he was nominated so to assist his preparation for next weeks features he will have a race night trial tonight. He won here two starts ago in 30.33 so it will be interesting to see what time he can post solo.

Our final race night trial will be after race 3 with Victorian Hector Fawley for trainer Lisa Cockerell strutting his stuff. He is a winner of 24 of his 64 starts with prizemoney in excess of $750,000. He recently was named the Run of the Year after his brilliant win in the Sandgroper in Perth in April where he came from a mile off them to win. Expect his run home tonight to be slick.

2024 TAB MATCH RACE CHALLENGE – SA TAKES ON THE ALL STARS – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER
South Australia will again conduct the annual Match Race Challenge in September, to be held on Thursday, 26th September during the rich Adelaide Cup Carnival.
GRSA has kept the conditions of the series the same as last year to be “SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS” to ensure that the Angle Park TAB Match Race Challenge attracts the best greyhounds possible.
It will be four (4) SA greyhounds taking on the four (4) best nominated greyhounds from anywhere in Australia.
GRSA will still guarantee the winner of the TAB Match Race Challenge direct entry into the $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Adelaide Cup Final on Friday, 11th October (bypassing the Adelaide Cup Heats). The winner of the Match Race series is considered qualified for the Group 1 Adelaide Cup and will not be eligible to compete in another series.

•    Interstate trainers wishing to nominate in SA are advised that GRSA have implemented the Vaccination Rule (R25).  You MUST have your greyhound C5 vaccinated and have lodged the Vaccination Certificate with your Controlling Body prior to close of nominations. The greyhound cannot compete with in 5 days of the Vaccination being done.

Conditions of the TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS:
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or All-Stars will be based around the National Championships domiciliary clause. Greyhounds need to be trained in the State they wish to represent for 76 days out of the last 150 days prior to the date that nominations close (23rd September).
The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from SA will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “SA’s Best”. The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from Interstate will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “the All-Stars”.
The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds including liaising with other State bodies as required. The SA Grader’s decision will be final.
Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night.
Reserves will be declared, with one (1) from SA and one (1) from Interstate (dependant on nominations), which will replace the SA or All-Stars representative as required.
For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.
The Grader will rate the four (4) greyhounds from SA and the four (4) from Interstate in order from 1 to 4, with No.1 being the highest rated greyhound from each group. The head-to-head matches will be decided by the two No. 1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.
Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect the seeding of greyhounds from 1 to 4, with the No. 1 rated greyhounds racing for the most prizemoney in the head-to-head races. However, the overall winner of the race will still be determined on actual race times run by each greyhound (to three decimal places only).
PRIZEMONEY:
Prizemoney for each pairing: • 1 v 1 – Winner $4,750, Runner Up $1,000 • 2 v 2 – Winner $4,500, Runner Up $1,000 • 3 v 3 – Winner $4,250, Runner Up $1,000 • 4 v 4 – Winner $4,000, Runner Up $1,000
Prizemoney for the overall placings for TAB Match Race Challenge (based on overall times): • 1st – $7,500 • 2nd – $2,500 • 3rd – $1,000
• Nominations for the Match Race close Monday, 23rd September at 9.00am.

2024 SA COUNTRY CUP SERIES LATER THIS MONTH
Below are details of how and where greyhounds can qualify for the $8,500 SA Country Cup Final, to be run at Angle Park over 530 metres on Adelaide Cup Final night Friday, 11th October 2024 as a G-SIX.
GRSA have kept the changes to the conditions from last year to encourage more support for the series with the Heats at each venue increased to $4,000 each.
Conditions

•             All South Australian Greyhound Racing Clubs outside of Angle Park will conduct Heats or nominate greyhounds from which the Greyhound Racing SA Grading Department will choose two representatives. These meetings are Gawler Provincial 1 and 2, Murray Bridge One Turn Provincial 1 and Mount Gambier Provincial 1 and 2.
•             The event is open to all South Australian greyhounds that are not above Grade 5 at Angle Park (APK City A meeting only) over 530 metres at the time of nomination. This condition is not applicable to the Mount Gambier representatives. Winner of each event takes a penalty including the Final.
Special Exceptions:
Mount Gambier Club is allowed to include non-South Australian trainers under strict conditions:
1. The Interstate trainer has had starters at 10 meetings for Mt Gambier in the previous 12 months.
2. The Interstate trainer must have trained the greyhound nominated for the previous 2 months.
•             Graders’ discretion will be used to determine the best nominated.
•             The greyhound must be SA trained (except Mount Gambier as above).
o A South Australian trained greyhound is defined as one that has been racing in SA for a period of not less than 2 out of the 6 months immediately prior to the time of nomination.
•             The greyhound must have started at least 2 times in the last 12 months at the track it is attempting to represent.
•             There will be a maximum of two Heats per Club with the winners of each Heat qualifying. If there is only one Heat conducted, then the first two placegetters will qualify.
•             The two reserves will be determined firstly by a ballot of the second placegetters from all Heats. The third placegetters will then be considered by ballot if required. If a Heat was not conducted at the track, then that track is not included in the ballot. Should a greyhound be withdrawn prior to the ballot, the next placed greyhound from that Club’s Heat will be selected.
•             If a greyhound does not qualify from a Qualifying Heat it is eligible to compete at another track in this series so long as meets that tracks criteria.
•             Once a greyhound has qualified from a Qualifying Heat, it is not eligible to compete at another track in this series, unless there are insufficient nominations to fill the field.
•             Once qualified for the Country Cup Final the greyhound will be ineligible for the Adelaide Cup series or any other race on this Cup Final night.
•             Lead up Heats may be up to 8 greyhounds however the Final on Adelaide Cup night will be a G-SIX Final.
