TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

How good is the racing here tonight at headquarters, Race 8 is the Final of the 2024 SA Champion Pup-py sponsored by Fresh Pet Food Co, as mentioned last week the Shima Shine /Dakota Roxy litter is well represented with three runners and Dakota Ava scorched the track here last week when winning by 7 lengths, she has drawn box 1 and is definitely the one to beat. Zinfandel Trace is the danger for mine as she can run time with a clear run early. The winners Cheque is $10,000 so it will certainly buy plenty of kibble for the winning connections.

TUESDAY NIGHT MEETINGS ON THE CALENDAR
Greyhound Racing South Australia (GRSA) announced the introduction of Tuesday night meetings at Angle Park, which started a few weeks ago.  The Tuesday night meetings are designed to meet de-mand, providing more racing opportunities for lower class greyhounds within SA.

The meetings will be time graded, with 10 races of six dog fields. The meetings will operate in tandem with Saturday morning race meetings which will target greyhounds of the same class with the racing distance at both race meetings restricted to 342m. Excess nominations are currently received for Sat-urday morning meetings.  The Tuesday meetings will provide a further outlet for greyhounds that are nominated for the Saturday mornings and are not provided with a starting opportunity. Greyhounds falling into this category will be granted preference rights if nominated for the subsequent Tuesday night meeting.

With Saturday morning and Tuesday night meetings being restricted to 342m nominations, opportuni-ties for 530m time graded greyhounds will be programmed for other Angle Park dates. Trainers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the details for the Tuesday night meetings, changes to the Saturday morning meetings and updated trialling times for Angle Park.

GRADING UPDATE REMINDERS
• GRSA allow one extra Grade 6 over another distance for City A Thursday meetings bringing this into line with all tracks in SA.
• GRSA removed the condition where once a greyhound has won a Grade 5 or higher event on a City A meeting that the greyhound will lose all Grade 6 events at all other tracks. This means a greyhound could be a Grade 4 or Grade 3 over 530m on a Thursday City A meeting and will still be able to win Grade 6 events at other tracks.
• GRSA allow a greyhound after winning a Grade 5 Masters event in faster time than the time standard to get back Into Masters with 2 runs in a Grade 5 at the track and distance, it doesn’t matter if they are placed or unplaced just so long as there are two starts out of Masters. This was changed from being just unplaced to get back.

SA BREEDERS SUPPORT PROGRAM
The Breeders Support Claim which has been increased to a maximum of $5,500 per litter will apply to all SA bred and whelped litters where the mating took place on or after April 1, 2024.

Breeders will be able to claim from a wider variation of breeding costs including stud fees, veterinary and transport, vaccination costs and whelping costs. Please see the breakdown below for Breeders who are looking at breeding their next litter. Claims will be processed upon receipt of the Litter Regis-tration form and Claim form.

While this support applies to litters conceived on or after April 1, 2024, GRSA will also reward each of the breeders that have supported the industry in the current financial year (July 2023 to June 2024) with a one-off bonus payment of $1000 for any litter whelped during FY24, prior to the new $5500 re-bate applying.

These payments have been processed this week with the last scheduled for Friday, July 19.
