TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

We have a MASSIVE night of racing ahead of us here tonight with the running of the 2022 SA Oaks Final (race 6) and the Final of the 2022 Derby Final (race 8) both have $25,000 to the winner and have a very good sprinkle of interstate visitors engaged in both events. The eleven-event program should be a blockbuster for punters as there look to be a couple of good things throughout the night.

Race 1 - Springvale Roxy can kick start our night from her good draw (1) and was very impressive when winning here last week in 30.50 when leading throughout, she is the one to beat again at her 1st run over the 595m. War Drum Express is a big danger, he has been placed in 4 of his 5 runs here over this trip and is knocking on the door. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 2 - This is a Maiden over the 530m and I will stick with Victa Speed who has been run down here at his last three, he has proven costly in my hip pocket but he gets his chance here. Bad Ringo has pace and is another who is close to breaking through. Agent Nineteen will be running strongly. Box Up 4.5.7.8.

Race 3 - How good is this event over the 595m we see the return of Stout Monelli who has been in terrific form over the 600m at The Meadows winning three of his last four, he is the current track record holder and looks the winner. Rufus Scrimgeour is one for the Trifecta Punter. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - Osprey Athena is a reserve for the Oaks Final and looks very well placed here in a grade 6 event, she will be very hard to beat in this grade. Love My Key is well drawn and was a last-start winner here from a wide draw. Add Spring Monica who will be running on strongly for the minors. Box up 5 from 1.4.7

Race 5 - Keep It Blue was the last start winner at Sandown from this draw and is one of the better chances at his 1st look here. Sister Roberta is my selection as she is in terrific form and has the early pace to lead and hopefully pinch this. John Dutton and Queen Of Scotch are chances for the minors. Box Up 2.5.6.7

Race 6 - This is the Final of the 2022 SA Oaks and Yahiro Bale was very impressive when winning here last week in a BON 30.42 in heavy conditions, she has a ton of ability and will be the one they have to catch on that run. Ava Blazer ran home strongly to run 3rd after missing the kick, she will be the big improver with another look at the circuit. Melissa Keeping along with Miss Scallywag are chances for the First Four. Box Up 2.3.5.6

Race 7 - Plan Ahead was very impressive when winning his last start at The Meadows in 29.87, he has 14 wins and 31 placings from his 72 starts and is drawn to win here at his 1st look here in SA. Just A Sort is another from interstate and the Tony Brett kennel is very astute. Toby West is the form runner here winning his last four. Box up 1.2.3.4

Race 8 - The Final of the 2022 SA Derby and this is wide open and we have another $25,000 on offer to the winner, I will stick with Deadly Class who has burnt me at his past couple he has been missing the kick here but HOPEFULLY can ping the lids here tonight at his 3rd look here and score. Hector Fawley was very impressive when saluting here last week in 30.62 when charging home and is amongst the better chances as is Rushes Law who has terrific early pace and on his recent racing can carve out very quick times. Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 9 - There look to be several chances here and Makani Girl has been showing a good turn of early pace in recent runs, she is yet to win here in 14 runs but has been placed on 6 occasions and from the draw is a chance of pinching this. Whiskey Soda gets a chance here as does Spring Pony. Box up 2.4.7.8

Race 10 - We are over the 730m here and it would be brave to tip against Fantastic Radley here, he is a class act but you would need to be James Packer to back him as he will be VERY SHORT on recent form. New Year Tears and Springvale Rex for the minors. 3 from 1.7.5 boxed

Race 11 - The last of the night and Bedrock Fred can bounce back here from the good draw, he is a very strong performer who has struggled here at his last 3 and is drawn to give this a big shake. Woodside Brockie has been showing early pace and must be respected as should Fifty Eight. Box Up 1.2.4.5

2022 COFFEX COFFEE SA OAKS FINAL TONIGHT

There were three heats of the SA Oaks with some fantastic racing on the show even though the weather conditions were very challenging last week. The first heat was taken out by Molly Irish for trainer Rob Harnas in 30.84 when she upset her more fancied rivals when she led throughout. Yahiro Bale won the second heat for Daniel Gibbons and was very impressive qualifying the fastest in 30.42 after running home powerfully. The final heat was won by Miss Scallywag for Tony Rasmussen when she led throughout in fine fashion running 30.63 for the 530m journey.

The $35,000 Group Three Final is race 6 on the program and is listed to jump at 8.34 pm (SA time).
The Final field in Box Draw order is:

2022 SA DERBY FINAL TONIGHT
There were three superb SA Derby heats last week where some of the best young chasers took centre stage at Angle Park and didn’t let anyone down. The first heat was won by Rushes Raw for local trainer Kim Johstone who recorded a handy 30.71 in leading most of the way. The second heat was won by Hector Fawley for Lisa Cockerell who ran 30.62 when he charged home along the rails after an almost unwinnable position. The final heat was won by Multi Matt for Jeff Britton who led throughout to win in 30.67 at double-figure odds.

The $35,000 Group Three Final is race 8 on the program and is listed to jump at 9.20 pm (SA time).
The Final field in Box Draw order is:

WOW SHE’S FAST TO TRIAL TONIGHT AT ANGLE PARK
Dual Group 1 winner and last year's Melbourne Phoenix winner, Wow She’s Fast will trial at Angle Park tonight in preparation for next Thursday's SA V Allstars Match Race Series looking to book her spot directly into the Group 1 Adelaide Cup Final on Friday 7th October. She will trial in between races which will be very exciting for the on-course patrons.

SA FLAVOUR IN MILLION DOLLAR CHASE SEMI FINALS TOMORROW NIGHT
With 8 cutthroat semi-finals at Wentworth Park tomorrow night for the Million Dollar Chase, SA has good representation with three well-known greyhounds competing.
In race 4 Teddy The Bear from box 3 for trainer Shelley Trengove is engaged after qualifying through the Broken Hill Regional Final in running second. He has drawn a hot field with Panama Pepper in box 8 the favourite however Teddy The Bear won his previous 5 starts and is in career-best form.
In race 8, SA has a double-pronged attack with He’s On Fire (owned by Tim Richards) and Charlee’s Misty for Vadim Roz. They take on newly crowned Australian Greyhound of the Year She’s A Pearl on her home deck but both are in great form. He’s On Fire now in the care of Alan Mainwaring has box 3 and ran She’s A Pearl last week to a length so with his speed he is drawn to run a bold race. Charlee’s Misty whilst qualifying through Broken Hill did run second in the SA National Spring Championship in August beaten a lip after shoring great pace, from box 5 she is right in the mix.
With only the winners of the 8 semi-finals progressing tomorrow night we wish the SA greyhounds the best of luck.

TAB MATCH RACE CHALLENGE – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY
South Australia will again conduct the annual Match Race Challenge in September, to be held on Thursday, 22nd September during the rich Adelaide Cup Carnival. Previously conducted as a State of Origin Series between SA and Victorian greyhounds, this was changed last year to an Allstars edition due to Covid and the linking of feature races with Victoria being unavailable.
After liaising with GRV and due to a change in the feature race programming and conditions, the linking of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup with Victorian events is not available this year. Also, the Million Dollar Chase which was programmed on top of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup has been changed to an earlier timeslot giving SA’s prestigious event much-needed clear air on the racing calendar.
To ensure that Angle Park TAB Match Race Challenge attracts the best greyhounds possible, GRSA has kept the conditions of the series the same as last year to be “SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS”. It will be four (4) SA greyhounds taking on the four (4) best-nominated greyhounds from anywhere in Australia.
GRSA will still guarantee the winner of the TAB Match Race Challenge direct entry into the $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Adelaide Cup Final on Friday, 7th October (bypassing the Adelaide Cup Heats).
Nominations close at 9 am on Monday, 19th September with GRSA.
Conditions of the TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS:
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or All-Stars will be based on the National Championships domiciliary clause. Greyhounds need to be trained in the state they wish to represent for 76 days out of the last 150 days prior to the date that nominations close (19th September).
The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from SA will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “SA’s Best”. The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from Interstate will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “the All-Stars”.
The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds including liaising with other State bodies as required. The SA Grader’s decision will be final.
Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared, with one (1) from SA and one (1) from Interstate (dependant on nominations), which will replace the SA or All-Stars representative as required. For example, the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.
The Grader will rate the four (4) greyhounds from SA and the four (4) from Interstate in order from 1 to 4, with No.1 being the highest rated greyhound from each group. The head-to-head matches will be decided by the two No.1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.
Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect the seeding of greyhounds from 1 to 4, with the No.1 rated greyhound racing for the most prizemoney in the head-to-head races. However, the overall winner of the race will still be determined by actual race times run by each greyhound (to three decimal places).
PRIZEMONEY:
Prizemoney for each pairing: • 1 v 1 – Winner $4,750, Runner Up $500 • 2 v 2 – Winner $4,500, Runner Up $500 • 3 v 3 – Winner $4,250, Runner Up $500 • 4 v 4 – Winner $4,000, Runner Up $500
Prizemoney for the overall placings for TAB Match Race Challenge (based on overall times):
• 1st – $7,500 • 2nd – $2,500 • 3rd – $1,000
*** Greyhound Racing SA will announce the 4 greyhounds from SA and the 4 all-star greyhounds from Interstate this Monday and conduct a live box draw on Facebook around 12.00pm. ***
