GAWLER SHOW DATES AND CHANGES
This year, the Annual Gawler Show will be held on the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August. As a result of this and the National Championships held locally, racing on Sunday night, 25th August will be at Angle Park. Gawler will race on Tuesday 20th August with the Murray Bridge Straight track meeting on Wednesday 21st August. With racing on the Wednesday at Murray Bridge the trials will be cancelled on that night 21st August.
Racing on Friday 23rd August will be at Murray Bridge around the One Turn with the Murray Bridge Straight track and Angel Park racing on Sunday 24th August due to the National.
Trials will be cancelled at Gawler on Thursday 22nd August and Monday 26th August during this time. At the moment trials will go ahead on Thursday 29th August at the venue but this will be dependent upon the tidying up and track maintenance progression.
Racing will be at Murray Bridge on the Straight track on Wednesday 28th August to allow more time for the Show society to remove all of their activities from the Show. There will be trials that night at Murray Bridge.
Racing will return to Gawler all going well on Friday 30th August.
DARCY DAKOTA NEW TRACK RECORD OVER 342M ON MONDAY NIGHT
We saw a new track record at Angle Park on Monday night over the 342m with Darcy Dakota for Kerry Stagg producing a sensational run to go 19.10 from box one and beat the previous record of 19.14 held by Craggy Island! Well done to Kerry and all connections.
CADILLAC RACING WINTER CLASSIC AT MOUNT GAMBIER FINAL NOW NEXT SUNDAY
The Heats of Cadillac Racing Winter Classic were meant to be run this Sunday at Mt Gambier however there were insufficient nominations to run an event let alone two heats. Under normal policy those trainers that did nominate for this event will be given first preference with their greyhounds for the final so long as they re-nominate. The $6,500 8 dog Final will be held on Sunday, 25th August over the 512m. For dogs and bitches whelped on or after 1st July 2022. Non Penalty.
* Nominations for the Final close Tuesday, 20th August with GRSA at 9.00am.
MT GAMBIER TRACK GRADE PLANNED FOR MONDAY 26TH AUGUST
The Maintenance team at Mt Gambier have advised, that weather dependant, there will be a track grade of the Mt Gambier track on Monday 26th August.
NEXT LOW GRADE SERIES AT ANGLE PARK

NATIONALS PROGRAMMING WEEK NEXT WEEK
GRSA has attempted to provide diverse racing opportunities for all of our greyhounds during the Group 1 National Championships held later next month to ensure all race meetings are supported with terrific financial rewards available for our participants.
• The race meeting at Angle Park on Saturday night, 24th August will not only feature the two Group 1 $136,750 National Sprint and Distance Finals there will also be an extra $1,500 added to all other events on the program including the Classic 2024 Prelude (1) Final enticing some of the very best chasers.
• The race meeting at Murray Bridge on Saturday morning, 24th August will not only feature the Group 3 $44,875 National Straight Track Final, but the whole 10 race card will be conducted with City A Metro prizemoney (Category 1) with a shared Straight track and One Turn meeting planned. This will be a great spectacle to have both tracks in operation on the same day. Feature races on the meeting will be an Open Straight track Feature over the 350m along with a Grade 5 over 300m, bearing in mind as this meeting is a Prov 1 for grading purposes all grades on the Straight track will not be higher than a Grade 5. One turn features a Special Event over the 455m along with two Finals, a Grade 6 455m Final and a Grade 5 395m Final with those Heats run on Friday, 16th August.
* Nominations for the Heats close Wednesday, 21st August with GRSA at 9.00am.
• The race meeting on Thursday night, 22nd August at Angle Park will provide an opportunity for some short course events with the main focus for sprinting, middle distance and stayers at Angle Park on the Saturday night. This meeting will provide a mix of events over multiple distances with highlighted events being Maiden Heats over the 530m, a Maiden/Grade 6 Final over 595m from Heats on Thursday, 15th August, a Grade 5 for Male dogs over 530m along with a restricted Grade 6 (1-2 win) event over 530m. Over the 342m we have programmed a Mixed 342m event with some of the quickest bend greyhounds on show, along with two Finals from Heats on Saturday morning, 17th August, one Time Graded 1-4 wins (3 Heats) and one Time Graded 5+ wins (2 Heats) which will provide some of our lesser lights an opportunity to share the spotlight on our City A meeting.
• At all other meetings during Nationals week, there will a Nationals Bonus payment where all winners, seconds and thirds will receive $100, $50, $25 extra respectively.
With the Gawler Show on the 24th and 25th August resulting in Gawler having a week off, both Angle Park and Murray Bridge will take the focus of our meetings during this time and it is hoped that the spread of racing opportunities provides for a great Nationals week for our local participants and industry.
KINGS AND QUEENS FEATURE HEATS IN AUGUST
Again, this year GRSA will conduct the Kings and Queens Feature series with $5,810 Heats on Thursday, 29th August and a $7,500 Final on Thursday, 5th September in continued support of any greyhound affected by the change to the GCA Age Restricted Classics change quite a number of years ago. The eligibility for this series is for dogs and bitches whelped between 1st March 2022 and 31st May 2022. Performed Maidens are eligible (raced or qualy trialled). Depending upon nominations we would like to run a dogs Heat and a bitches Heat separately with greyhounds qualifying into the Final. If there are not sufficient nominations for either sex, then these Heats may be mixed into a couple of mixed Heats. Special conditions apply; however, these races will be non-penalty.
• Nominations for the Heats close Monday, 26th August at 9.00am with GRSA.
PREFERENTIAL BOX DRAWS STARTED AT MURRAY BRIDGE ON TUESDAY
GRSA has started conducting Preferential Box Draws for selected events at the Murray Bridge Straight track starting from Tuesday (Maidens and Feature Cup and Championship series will be excluded). These types of events are being regularly programmed Interstate under each state’s conditions.
Events will be specifically advertised, and trainers must advise if they want to compete in these events along with the racing trait of the respective greyhound at the time of nominating in the comments box. If trainers do not provide this information when nominating, they will not be considered for these advertised PBD events.
Conditions -
• PBD racing to be introduced for advertised race events at the Murray Bridge Straight track as from August 1, 2024
• Three racing traits – R = Rail, M = Middle, W = Wide
• The Trainer nominates the racing trait of the greyhound relating to box rise and 50m after the start
• This is reviewed by Stewards/Grading teams
• Box draws via OzChase which can now accommodate an automated process where greyhounds can be grouped by trait and then automatically box drawn
• Grading of each race event will be done under normal grading and programming guidelines
• There will be No Reserves for these events
Specific PBD Events programmed –
Wednesday 21st August – PBD Grade 6 – 350m
Wednesday 28th August – PBD Mixed – 350m
GRADING UPDATE REMINDERS
• GRSA allow one extra Grade 6 over another distance for City A Thursday meetings bringing this into line with all tracks in SA.
• GRSA removed the condition where once a greyhound has won a Grade 5 or higher event on a City A meeting that the greyhound will lose all Grade 6 events at all other tracks. This means a greyhound could be a Grade 4 or Grade 3 over 530m on a Thursday City A meeting and will still be able to win Grade 6 events at other tracks.
• GRSA allow a greyhound after winning a Grade 5 Masters event in faster time than the time standard to get back Into Masters with 2 runs in a Grade 5 at the track and distance, it doesn’t matter if they are placed or unplaced just so long as there are two starts out of Masters. This was changed from being just unplaced to get back.
SA BREEDERS SUPPORT PROGRAM
The Breeders Support Claim which has been increased to a maximum of $5,500 per litter will apply to all SA bred and whelped litters where the mating took place on or after April 1, 2024. Breeders will be able to claim from a wider variation of breeding costs including stud fees, veterinary and transport, vaccination costs and whelping costs. Please see the breakdown below for Breeders who are looking at breeding their next litter. Claims will be processed upon receipt of the Litter Registration form and Claim form.
