Racing News

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

The Shadow is currently at large  however we have been able to get our GRSA website form analysis to cast their eye over tonight’s terrific card of racing at Angle Park.

Race 1 - Race clearly revolves around BAZINGA AVA (5) who was terrific in her heat. She's got a flat spot midrace, but is faultless early and is strong. The one to beat. ZEAL EXPRESS (8) was brave in his heat and won't surprise at all if he wins this. SHE'S ALL CHEEK (4) might just get the right run early to surprise after a solid run last week.

Race 2 - Time to get the dartboard out, three first starters and all from respected kennels. CALL ME JACQUES (6) is likely to have a bit of talent and if the money comes then it will be worth following. ASCEND (1) has shown enough already in his starts and should get enough room to offset his wide running trait. CYCLONE JUNGLE (4) for third.

Race 3 - Another tricky maiden with three first starters and two of them drawing well. I have always liked ZIPPING RUCKMAN (4) and whilst his early speed hurts him, he might just be good enough to pinch this. GRAND MAGIC (1) has a great draw, if he's good enough to use it. WHO KNOWS GUS (7) could follow the railer in #5 and get a good run.

Race 4 - This should be a beauty! BIG OPAL ROCKS (5) is something else when he's switched on, has a mesmerising turn of foot and is so strong. First look here the only worry, but he will pick these up and carry them back to the kennels if he's spot on. BERNARDO BOWL (8) can get to the front down the back, whilst EXPRESS SPEED (7) will run home well.

Race 5 - Fascinating prelude for the Champion Puppy. All things being equal then ONE LAST KISS (7) should bounce back and show how good he is. Wide draw is fine as he uses plenty of the track. BUZZ THE HUSTLER (6) goes the right way about things and just needs to offset this draw. HELP ME RONDA (3) goes quite nicely and the draw will help.

Race 6 - Handy race here. DAZZLING CRUISER (7) was terrific at Gawler, doing it at both ends and handling a wide draw. Can lead these easily and will be hard to beat if she does. RAGIN' HUGO (1) has the draw to show up, has speed to work with and from the good draw, can go to the lead early. HOOGLEY (4) is talented and can make his presence felt.

Race 7 - Well this is even! A few winning hopes and different ways to look at things. PETINA (4) always produces eye-catching efforts, but I think she may get enough clear air here to finish first. Just needs a clear runway midrace. VICTA MONTY (1) is obvious from the draw and should be getting his chance. ON THE NORTHERNS (3) is a nice pup.

Race 8 - This race is a ripper! COULD BE KING (4) was just so good last start and he might just get the room he desires here. With the right luck, then he will be way too strong for these. FANTASTIC DIXIE (6) has an incredible motor, but she's always asking for too much luck. Can win with the right run. AIR OUTLAW (3) is in good form right now.

Race 9 - Competitive field here and a few winning hopes. FANTASTIC FAITH (5) might just get first crack at the lead here and if she does then she will give them something to catch. COORONG CAM (7) is a bull and might just be too intimidating when he works through his gears. LOT OF POISE (8) would win with a repeat of last weeks run. Good race!

Race 10 - Small but certainly intriguing this race! DASHING JINX (3) is going well and the small field helps him. Just needs to come out and he will take some beating. SPRINGVALE REX (5) was a terrific winner last start and should set the pace. MORE SIRIUS (1) brings a new form line and is surely going well to be over this trip first up for a while.

Race 11 - Well this is very tricky, every dog has a hope in this. Will side with LOVING THE CASH (2) who was really impressive at her last start here, covering extra ground before winning well at Mount Gambier last start. Low draw should assist. COCO COASTER (1) gets the right draw here following a handy run on Monday night. RHONDA WINE (8) for third.

Race 12 - Good finish to the night and will go the way of RAGIN' RIOT (2) in an even race. Can step better than last week and I thought she held herself well through the line. ROXY ROVER (4) was awesome last week, just need to see her do it again now. VICTA TONY (1) was sound last week and gets his chance with the good draw.

GRADING REVIEW PANEL MEETING OUTCOMES – MAIN POINTS

•    GRSA will allow one extra Grade 6 over another distance for City A Thursday meetings bringing this into line with all tracks in SA. No retrospectivity regarding this change.

•    GRSA has removed the condition where once a greyhound has won a Grade 5 or higher event on a City A meeting that the greyhound will lose all Grade 6 events at all other tracks. This means a greyhound could be a Grade 4 or Grade 3 over 530m on a Thursday City A meeting and will still be able to win Grade 6 events at other tracks. No retrospectivity regarding this change.
•    GRSA will now allow a greyhound after winning a Grade 5 Masters event in faster time than the time standard to get back into Masters with 2 runs in a Grade 5 at the track and distance, it doesn’t matter if they are placed or unplaced just so long as there are two starts out of Masters. This has been changed from being just unplaced to get back.

INDUSTRY CONSULTATIVE GROUP PANEL MEETING OUTCOMES – MAIN POINTS

•    There will only be one provisional breeders license being provided to multiple participants residing at the same residence.  All other applications would be dealt with on a case by case basis. For implementation ASAP.

•    2 in 7 starts and 7 in 28 starts rule.  The ICG agreed that a 10 day stand down period would be an appropriate penalty for those that knowingly nominated greyhounds that would be ineligible due to the rule.  It was suggested any further infringements could attract a monetary penalty.  To clarify any penalty would only apply once the dog had gone around, not in instances with late scratchings etc.  It is the trainer’s responsibility to be aware of this rule and their implications. For implementation ASAP.

•    The ICG panel confirmed and supported a $100 fine for any late Pink Card applications. For implementation ASAP.

•    The ICG panel supported all trialling to be booked through the Trial Booker process to ensure specific criteria is met. Management to investigate amending trial booker into group categories to achieve greater efficiency at the session. For implementation ASAP.

2023 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN VICTORIA
The GCA National Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at The Meadows in Victoria and are to be conducted on Saturday, 26th August.
Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals are at Group 1 level.
The State series’ for SA will be held at Angle Park on Thursday, 3rd August for the Sprint Heats over 530m with the State Final of the Sprint and one-off Final over 730m of the Distance on the 10th August. In an effort to support this series ALL States will be conducting their Finals on the same night to be run within a two hour period.
• Nominations will close at the normal time with GRSA which will be at 9am on Monday, 31st July
A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the nomination closing date to be eligible to represent SA, which going back is on Wednesday, 17th May 2023. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

NATIONAL STRAIGHT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP AT HEALESVILLE
The National Straight Track Championship this year will be held at Healesville on Saturday morning, 26th August – so all the National Finals will be held on the same day.
This year SA will have two SA dogs represent the State in the series with QLD, NSW, VIC and SA challenging for the title.
So the Straight Track series aligns with the circle and the other States, our Heats will be held at Murray Bridge on Tuesday, 1st August with our Final on Tuesday, 8th August. Prizemoney for the SA Straight track Final will be $10,000 to the winner aligned with the other three States.
It is important that trainers are aware that these series’ for the circle and straight track are run at the same time so please be mindful of this when nominating and the qualifying criteria.
• Nominations close with GRSA at 9am on Thursday, 27th July

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the nomination closing date to be eligible to represent SA, which going back is on Saturday, 13th May 2023. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

LOW GRADE RACE FOR THURSDAYS AT ANGLE PARK
In an effort to ensure we are programming 12 races each Thursday night at Angle Park, GRSA has introduced a low grade race for some Thursday nights. These races are for Grade 5 greyhounds over 530m that have a low WPS (Weighted Points Score). Prizemoney will be slightly less than a normal Grade 5, however, these races will be non-penalty. There will be no guarding, no reserves and only one 8 greyhound race. This should provide encouragement for those trainers who have 500m+ greyhounds but feel they cannot compete on a normal Thursday night due to current form. We are hoping to draw from a different pool of greyhounds and GRSA would encourage trainers to nominate.
$3,505 Special event Grade 5 (worst to best) – 530m (One 8 dog field will be graded from the Weighted Points Score table of Grade 5 pool of greyhounds worst to best grading. No guarding and no reserves. Trainers cannot nominate for this event specifically. Non Penalty)
The next programmed event is on Thursday, 29th June.
• Nominations close Monday, 17th July with GRSA at 9.00am
GRSA has also continued with the 1 – 4 win Time Graded Heats on a Saturday morning over 530m into a Thursday night Final, however, with the introduction of the race on Thursday night, in May the 5+ 530m Time Graded events will only be run if insufficient nominations for the meeting (there will be no Heats for this pool of greyhounds unless specifically programmed).

GRSA will also continue running Heats at Murray Bridge, Angle Park Monday and Gawler into a Thursday night Final where the program allows to draw from a different pool of greyhounds over 500m.

GOTBA COURSING DATES
GOTBA at Virginia Coursing dates until the end of the season. GRSA will continue to grade a mix of 4 and 8 dog events as the season progresses.
