TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

I have returned for a bumper 2023 racing season and what a night to kick off with 6 Heats of the John Gray (races 2 to 7) and the Final of the 2023 SA Sprint (race 8) with $15,000 going to the winner. We also have a handy 730m event and good supporting races, as always all races are Trifecta and First Four and let's hope we can kick off on the front foot.

Race 1
- I think we can kick off with a winner in Quest For Extra, he was a last-start winner here in 30.60 and I hope he can cross from the wide draw. Terrific Janine can show early pace and is well boxed down on the fence. Box Up 8.2.3.6

Race 2 - Harry has been in outstanding form winning his last four, he is a strong performer who also has an early pace, and he looks very hard to beat again. Dutch Impact along with It’s Smudgy can figure out a clear run early. Box Up 5.8.1.4

Race 3 - San Lorenzo is one of my better bets of the night, he finally has a good draw and being down in grade is a huge upside. The dangers look to be Sweet Vibes who is first up here in SA and has had a good record and All Show who has an early pace. Box Up 1.3.2.4

Race 4 - This is an event you can play safe on as all the 7 starters are a chance, I have gone with Jax Bale because of the good draw, he can kick up in the run and is amongst the better chances. Impress Us was a last-start winner at Gawler in good time and is the danger. Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 5 - Springvale Max is my top pick, forget his past two runs in the open company he is back to grade 5 company here and will be very hard to beat. Tomato Tears has the ability and don’t forget Miss Free Reign who will be rattling home. Box Up 7.2.8.3

Race 6 - The Rawlings kennel could have a handy night if Spring Phoebe salutes, she can show the early pace at times and the kennel has a few chances throughout the evening. Springvale Rex and Howling Hoss will be right in the mix and will be hard to toss. Box Up 2.4.3.1

Race 7 - We will need to be in front by now as this is a toughie, I went with Mr. Ticket who has been racing well and has an early pace, he looks a big chance of leading. Dash Of Blue will be running late and should be at each-way odds. Yasmin Belle and Shan’s Jinx are also in the mix. Box Up 3.6.2.4

Race 8 - The Final of the 2023 SA Sprint with $15,000 big ones to the winner, I liked the run of Came And Went last week, he found early trouble and kept on coming late to finish 2nd he will be very hard to beat but I wouldn’t be taking short odds. Mallee Magic continues to step up in big races, he has 13 wins here and is the danger. Springvale Roxy has been trained to the minute by Mike Giniotis, she can run time if she finds the front. Box up 5.2.7.3

Race 9 - This is over the 730m and the two chances are Powder Finger and Chair Man, both are last-start winners over this trip and should fight out the finish. My Mate Snow gets back and should be making late ground along with Dashing Jinx. Box Up 1.4.7.2

Race 10 - Nicole Price has Velocity Tahnie racing well, she has a good turn of early pace and the draw shouldn’t be a worry. Spring Monica along with Most Wanted are chanced on their form. Add Foreshadow who will be ratting home out wide. Box up 6.8.2.7

Race 11 - Live It is my top pick here, he has been in the money here at his last three all from wide draws but his box manners can be a worry. Wishing You resumed from a lengthy break and struggled first up she is the improver. Box Up 5.4.2.8

Race 12 - With only the five runners here in last I like Victa Reid who has the gun draw, he should be able to kick up on the fence and run a bold race. Whiskey Soda has good form along with Victa Kurt in an open affair. Box Up 1.4.8.2

PRIZEMONEY INCREASE FROM 1ST JANUARY 2023
Greyhound racing in South Australia will benefit from a return to pre-COVID prizemoney levels following an overall stake money increase of 7.5%, equally distributed across all TAB grades and races. Effective from 1 January 2023, the increase will total $750,000 over a twelve-month period, rebuilding a foundation of base level prizemoney across the industry.

While the increase in base stake money levels will likely result in a reduction in monthly Wagering Activity Payments (WAP), it will provide more certainty to participants surrounding industry returns.

The prizemoney increase will be felt across all grades of greyhound racing in South Australia and will extend from Angle Park to regional tracks at Mount Gambier, Gawler and Murray Bridge. Races held at Murray Bridge’s straight track will enjoy an additional funding boost, taking the total prizemoney increase at the track to 20%.

SA NAMINGS $55 FROM 1ST JANUARY 2023
As previously advertised GRSA advise that SA Naming will be $55 including GST effective 1st January 2023. As there is a cost for naming’s from Greyhounds Australasia to GRSA it was approved that a fee should be reintroduced with all starts charging for naming.
