TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

With the Shadow still returning soon, our form assessor from sa.thedogs.com.au again gives their thoughts on tonight’s Angle Park meeting featuring the SA Sprint Final and four heats of the John Gray -

Race 1 - This race revolves around one dog and that is LENA JINX (1), who is potentially the best stayer in the country, but there is two of her! Destroys these if she puts in, could be ugly if she doesn't. MAX ROCHA (3) has found a liking for this distance, while MACHISMO (6) will be super strong. Intriguing race!

Race 2 - Even enough maiden this and I did like the improvement shown by EXULTANT MCLAREN (5) last week at his second career start. Is a bit one paced, but can get out the boxes well and has strength on his side. SHEA'S ENTITY (2) led them up early last week and can win if he does the same this week. PEDANTIC MISS (8) will flash home late.

Race 3 - First heat of the John Gray. Hoping we get close to black odds with the presence of the #1, but UNHOLY REIGN (3) should simply be winning this. She has a big future and just does everything right everytime she steps out onto the track. MAKE NOISE (6) was good last start and can offset the poor draw. BOBBY AXELROD (1) can win if near full fitness.

Race 4 - Even field this and a few with a chance. Will go with the early speed in IT'S SMUDGY (1), who is honest as the day is long. Will jump and run stick to the fence, just needs to pinch a break early. RIOT ROOSTER (8) is an exciting dog and just needs to handle the wide draw. MIRACLE TO EXCEL (2) is racing well enough at the moment.

Race 5 - Even race this and many with a chance. I just think PINK CONFETTI (2) is going too well at the moment, she gets her chance to lead from the low draw and has proven herself to be very hard to catch out in front. FANTASTIC ADA (4) is a talented type and she can put herself in the race early. MINTER REDEEM (3) is too good to leave out.

Race 6 - Another very good heat of the John Gray here however with the scratching of MY KHALEESI (2), Im going to go with HARRY (4)who is in terrific form at the moment and with some luck he's a big danger. FAT BOY'S LUCKY (6) has the strength and can ran a place along with BASIL BRUSH ROSE (1) who can surprise with a better beginning.

Race 7 - Good field this for a grade 6 and will side with FAST HEADACHE (6) on the basis that I think she could lead this. Isn't overly strong late so must lead and pinch a break midrace. SPONTANEOUS (3) is very promising, just the ability to miss it early and run off is a worry here. TRANSPLANT KING (7) has a future and can definitely win this.

Race 8 - Sprint Championship time and it's a good field! With WHERE'S POPPY (8) coming out it does lead to ADHANA RICO (4) getting a good run through and is the premier chaser in the state right now and if he lands close, then watch out. COULD BE KING (1) is well drawn and will be charging home late while FIORANO (3) has the ability especially if he took control early.

Race 9 - Very strong field for a 1-2 win race this. Going to go with what should be some value in the form of SPRINGVALE RITA (4). She has early pace and I just think that she can cross to the rail and run them along. WOODSIDE JOHNNY (7) is very good, with a clear run he will be too good. FANTASTIC HELGA (1) is on the improve.

Race 10 - Excellent fast class event this and every dog can certainly win even though now down to four runners. As is the theme of the night, will go with the likely leader in my eyes which is VICTA MARLI (4). She is a quality animal and if she gets in front, then she can run them along. SPRINGVALE ROXY (7) can bounce back to form with some early luck. PAUA OF SILENCE (8) has a string of wins and could add to the picket fence form.

Race 11 - Interesting field this one and think SEND IT BLUE (5) can really make his mark here. He is a very strong dog and with any luck at all, then I think he just proves too powerful. INFORMATION (1) is really well drawn and should get every hope. KATRINA HIGHKICK (4) is strong and will be around the mark as normal.

Race 12 - Pathways final to send the punters home and will go with the strongest of this lot which is RICO NISMO (2). She's been in far harder contest and while she loves running placings, there's every chance she storms past these really late. MERMAID LEMONADE (3) is a nice sort and will go close. SPECIAL HERBS (8) also has a good chance.

STAYING EVENTS TO MOVE TO 5 RUNNERS AS A MINIMUM FROM JANUARY 2024
For a number of years GRSA has supported our staying ranks by running these events with a minimum of 4 runners. GRSA has tried to encourage this pool to grow at the expense of other events on a program, even with such small numbers. However, from meetings drawn in January 2024 any staying event programmed will need to be a minimum of 5 runners to be considered in the program. This will affect the Angle Park 730m, Murray Bridge 680m and Mt Gambier 732m.
GRSA will continue to review processes in relation to the field size and scheduling.
