TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We certainly have a big night of racing here at headquarters tonight with two heats of the SA Distance Championship (races 2 and 3), these heats look very strong and is sure to make for a very handy final here next week. We also have three heats of the 2020 SA Anniversary Cup over the sprint, these are races 5,6,7, all events are certainly wide open and will make for good betting races. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events and in recent weeks we have been finishing on the right side of the ledger.

Tips for Tonight:

Race 1 - 2.4.6.7VELOCITY DORY (2) won here from this draw last time out and is very capable, can figure while EBBY CRUISER (7) is also racing well. POWER BURNER (4) has an honest record over this journey and has solid form with three placings in his last four starts.

Race 26.4.8.2ZIPPING GALON (6) is unbeaten after four runs at this trip including a flying 42.70 personal best, can be slow out but will take holding in the 5 dog field. MY BOY BEAN (4) hasn't finished worse than second in his last eight runs here, could lead early and take some catching.

Race 38.4.6.2 SIR TRUCULENT (8) jump as a big favourite. He is racing in outstanding form after winning his last five in a row here including two sub 43 second efforts, very strong and hard to beat. WOODEN TIGER (4) has a motor and is hugely talented but is very awkward in a field, the obvious danger. CRIPPS DUSTY (6) placed in his last seven.

Race 4 1.6.3.7WORTH A SHOUT (1) posted a 29.77 effort here three runs ago and hasn't finished worse than second in his last seven outings, will find the line strongly. LAWRIE ROAD (6) has a tough draw but is racing well enough while SPRING COBRA (3) is racing in solid form and won here in 30.09 three starts back, can figure in this.

Race 58.4.7.1IT'S A RIOT (8) has a modest strike rate from wide draws but was impressive in the Eastar series with a 29.58 run here. WYNBURN MIA (4) is first up in SA but has run fast time at Wentworth Park and she trialled in 29.74 here last month. SPRING VINNIE (7) has loads of ability.

Race 67.2.1.5ALFEIRI (7) has an outstanding career record and is racing in excellent form after winning his last three here including a 29.54 success in the Eastar series last week. REV FRED SLOY (2) impressed in his SA debut over the short here and could run a race while CAIRNLEA EBONY (1) could also get out well from her draw.

Race 71.2.5.7TWO TIMES TWICE (1) has won two of his last three including a 29.62 success here and he posted a 29.65 effort in the Eastar series last run - can go close while BOSS MCLAREN (2) is capable on his day. HOT SOPHIE (5) has good early speed and won the Murray Bridge Cup two starts back.

Race 88.6.2.1JAZZY FOOTLUCE (8) is racing well and capable of getting out fast, could go close if she settles forward. ALLINGA MAL (6) is racing in good form and has a solid record from this draw, has won three of his last six including a 29.91 effort from this same box.

Race 94.3.1.7MADDISON KAYE (4) will jump favourite in this one. She shows great promise and has an excellent career record to date, led all the way in 29.60 here four runs ago and impressed in the Eastar series. BUDDY GUY (3) has top three claims, while SOUL ROCKER (1) comes off back-to-back wins.

Race 104.7.8.3CAWBOURNE CLANCY (4) won two of his last three including a 30.04 effort here and he usually gets away well, has been solid here and he looks a good chance. BORN LOVELY (7) has strong short course form coming into this.

The first 4 from each heat will progress through to next weeks final. The box will be conducted through the Ozchase racing system on Monday with the other races o0n the night due to oncourse restrictions.

The Anniversary Cup is races 5, 6 and 7 and features the likes of Bailey Rocks, Wynburn Mia and It’s A Riot in heat 1, Cairnlea Ebony, Rev Fred Sloy and Alfieri in heat 2 with Two Time’s Twice, Hot Sophie and Chief’s Sidekick in heat 3. The first 2 from each heat and two fastest thirds will progress through to next weeks final. The box will also be conducted on Monday through the Ozchase system.

MURRAY BRIDGE SUNDAY 19TH CANCELLED DUE TO NOMINATIONS

The Murray Bridge meeting programmed on Sunday 19th April was cancelled due to a lack of nominations.

GRSA is fully supportive of running at Murray Bridge and will be hopeful of more overall support for their next meeting on the One Turn track on Sunday 26th April . The Grade 5 Heats over the 455m will be reprogrammed for the meeting on Sunday 26th April with the final on Sunday 3rd May.

UPDATED SCHEDULE OF RACING

GRSA is continuing to manage the weekly racing schedule during the canine gastroenteritis issue, which is impacting on the number of fit and healthy greyhounds available to race.

Data now suggests that the worst of the issue has now passed, and as such, GRSA is looking to a sensible and staged approach to the return of full racing in the Adelaide region. Racing at Mt Gambier will still be impacted by the Government’s COVID-19 restrictions, therefore for the immediate short term racing will be limited to one meeting per week.  Please be aware of the calendar below:

The meeting scheduled for Angle Park on Wednesday 29th April will remain and will be Time Graded as programmed (as GRSA has not run one this month). This will result in the Murray Bridge straight track conducting three consecutive meetings (8th, 15th & 22nd April), with Angle Park returning to Wednesday’s on the 29th April to resume the normal fortnightly rotation.

Our intent is for Gawler to recommence race meetings on Friday 1st May. At this stage it is anticipated that GRSA could return to the normal schedule of six weekly Adelaide region meetings towards the middle of May. This would see Gawler race meetings return to Tuesday afternoon.

As stated earlier, Mount Gambier will continue to race once a week on Thursday until such time Government restrictions are eased in regards to cross boarder movement.

Participants should also note that in attempting to maximise the weekly schedule, the Grading Department will continue to manage nominations as they see fit in regards to full fields, number of races, G-SIX vs 8 dogs fields and the make-up of individual races, whilst trying to keep with principles previously introduced.

Separately GRSA will make further announcements next week in response to COVID 19 and how this impacts stakemoney and feature events.

UPCOMING FEATURE RACES

Greyhound Racing SA has considered the future of some of our immediately upcoming feature races planned for Angle Park.

GRSA advise that the Finals for the Anniversary Cup Heats and SA Distance Championship Heats run tonight will remain with the advertised stakemoney on Thursday 23rd April.

GRSA advise that the Howard Ashton series will continue in the racing dates as advertised in May with stakemoney remaining also as advertised. GRSA believes this series is a very important one for breeders and owners alike with industry contributing to this stakemoney and eligibility restricted to SA Bred greyhounds born in a specific 6 month period. This series has already begun with one prelude series at Gawler and one prelude series at Angle Park already completed. The next prelude in this series will be conducted with heats on Monday night 20th April at Angle Park and the final the week later on Monday 27th April. The Group 3 Howard Ashton will be run with heats on 13th May, semi finals on 21st May and final on 28th May. Greyhounds do not need to compete in the prelude series to be eligible for the Howard Ashton.

Noting the current quarantining in place for the Mt Gambier region, GRSA has allowed an exemption for affected connections of paid up greyhounds which preserves their opportunity to continue to compete in the series.

GRSA will be making more announcements regarding feature races for the remainder in the coming weeks.

NON ESSENTIAL PERSONS ONCOURSE AT RACE MEETINGS

GRSA reminds participants with children that due to the COVID-19 restrictions non essential persons and the public are not allowed oncourse which includes children.

Unfortunately during school holidays this can be difficult for some of our participants to manage however they need to make other arrangements for them.

GRSA appreciates the significant changes in place for the industry during this time and appreciates the efforts that are being made and continue to be made to abide due social distancing and restrictions.
