Gawler River trainer Angela Modra had a great day out at Gawler greyhounds on Friday afternoon, winning three races on the program.

Angela got the scorecard going in the first race of the day, a Mixed Grade event over the 643m journey. Angela’s runner, Sutton Sandy jumped well from box 8 to go straight to the front, and at one stage opened up a handy 4 length break. However that margin was slowly eroded by Mister Harlewood, and at the line, Sutton Sandy triumphed by 1¼ lengths over Mister Harlewood for Gino Grgurovic, with Reiko Bear a further length away for Kim Johnstone.

Angela was able to repeat the dose in the 531m Mixed 3/4/5, with her runner Sutton Daisy getting off to a flying start from box 2, to be a two length leader as they left the straight the first time. Sutton Daisy set a good pace for the event, who were unable to bridge the gap, with Twin Pick running into second place for Kiah Hurley, over Aston Thunder for Matt Payne.

The third win for Angela came up in a 400m Grade six event with another all the way winner, this time from Another Ruby. Always looking safe out in front, Another Ruby finished strongly to win by 2½ lengths from Girl On Fire for Steven Brook, with Shrinking a whisker away in third spot for Jack Trengrove.

In an unusual twist, the tally for Angela consisted of a winner in each of the three distances at the track, being 400m, 531m and 643m. With only a small team in work, it was a fine result for Angela and her helpers, Jack Williams and Peter Czupak.

Angela has a long and successful record in greyhound racing, on a local and also national level, covering both a training and breeding perspective.  A look at Angela’s training results shows that she has consistently produced 28 plus winners a year over the last decade, which shows her consistency. Friday’s results added to Angela’s good record this year, which sits at 27 wins and 40 placings from 121 starts, giving her a 22.3% winning rate.

Racing continues this week on Friday and Tuesday afternoon, as well as Sunday night, but unfortunately due to COVID restrictions, only essential persons only can attend, which excludes the general public. Please keep an eye out for any changes of restrictions that will allow us to welcome the public back again.
