It has been a case of ‘always a bridesmaid, never the bride’ for Allegra, with the fawn greyhound searching for her elusive first win in her 50th start this Thursday night at Angle Park. Her 49 starts have come with 25 placings showing she is not far off her first win for trainer Gino Grgurovic and owner Lance Simpson.

“We are hanging out for her first win but we just enjoy seeing her do what she loves, which is run.” Gino explains.

Although Gino admits that Allegra is no world beater, he loves training her and says she is a great dog at his kennel.

“Allegra is a very happy go lucky girl who loves to run and play at my property. She has been knocking on the door to get her first win, coming close a few times. Although maybe she just likes being a maiden?!” Gino continued.

Allegra has run over all distances from 300m to 731m showing her versatility, while Gino believes 600m is her ideal distance.

Owner Lance Simpson says that when she does get her first win there will be quite a roar at the track. “Allegra has created a bit of a following amongst our friends and family. I reckon there will be a lot of celebrating when she finally cracks her first win.”

“Even though Allegra is not a group quality dog, she just loves to run and we love her as if she was a Group 1 winner. She tries her heart out and is a beautifully natured girl who loves to play and run. She is just too good to retire as a maiden!” Lance continues.

If luck goes her way, Allegra will get her first win this Thursday night from box 1 in the 600m in a maiden/grade 6 feature heats in race 5.
