AGRA Greyhound Auction
NEWS RELEASE
Greyhound Racing SA’s auction reaches record numbers
The Adelaide Greyhound Racing Clubs greyhound Auction was held on Sunday October 12 with a huge $203,250 being spent in the hope of finding the next champion of the sport.
There were 67 young greyhounds up for auction with all lots selling, top price paid was $8,500 for a pup in the catalogue from the 2012 SA Greyhound of the year Hopes Up and the average price paid on Sunday was $3,033. With racing greyhounds having the potential to win upward of $700,000 and the average price of pups sold on Sunday being only $3,033, the low entry price for some well-bred pups gave the opportunity for first time participants to enter the sport.
This is the first greyhound auction in 10 years and with the high amount of interest on the day, the Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club will be looking to hold this auction annually. Each pup which was sold at Auction is eligible to enter a $10,000 to the winner race series to be held in 2016.
‘The amount of interest on the day has shown the continued popularity of the sport, with many first time buyers attending on the day in the search for the next champion’, Racing Manager of Greyhound Racing SA Shaun Mathieson said.
