Adelaide Cup Preview - Friday 11th October 2019
by The Shadow
MASSIVE is the only way I can describe tonight’s racing at headquarters, ITS CUP NIGHT and what a quality line we have for tonight’s final, Race 8 on the programme, its our premier event of the year with $75,000 to the winner up for grabs. Good luck to local trainer Tony Rasmussen who is taking on 7 interstaters with Cawbourne Terry, he will need a lot of luck early but we have seen upsets before in high quality events. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Fours and we might be able to get some handy value throughout the night.
Race 1 - It’s hard to split the Rasmussen pair with Little Earner and Hot Spartan, both are in terrific form and have a good turn of early pace, they should nearly run the Quinella. Mr. Mufasa is in the Colin Swain kennel and should run through the grades in weeks to come, he looks to be a handy type so we will put him in the mix. Box Up 1.2.7.8
Race 2 - Go Quantum is trained in Victoria but is locally owned, he has only had the 1 start when 2nd at Sandown Park after starting the punters elect, he should appreciate the 6-dog field and prove hard to beat. Billie Burner is the improver, add Castle Ruins for the Trifecta. Box up 1.2.4.5
Race 3 - Better Dreams has won his last 3 all in good fashion at Gawler and with his early dash should take catching from the rails draw. Galactic Titan found a heap of trouble here last start and is more than capable with an ounce of luck early, he is very strong and is the big danger. Spring Taylor and Conner Peruzzi can run into the First Four. Box up 1.2.7.8
Race 4 - This is the Distance affair “The Premier’s Cup” of the night and Dyna Quota continues to be well travelled between SA and Victoria, she won here 2 runs back in good fashion and looks the one to beat again tonight. Five Thirty has been in the money at her last 4 runs and is a must for Trifecta punters. West On Tia is the value runner along with Stitch Em Cilla for the First Four. Box Up 1.3.4.7
Race 5 - The 600m racing in recent weeks has been first class and this should be no different with several chances in this, I like Ace Allen who has been in the money at his 3 runs over this trip since crossing the border. Unique Edition is another who hasn’t missed a cheque in his 5 runs and has very strong credentials. Box Up 1.2.3.8
Race 6 - This is the Adelaide Cup Consolation with a touch under $8,000 to the winner. Alicante Bouchet led early here last week in the heats only to be run down late by Spring Bridge in 29.61, she can cross these and hopefully pinch a winning break. Seal The Deal was a very good run when 2nd behind Weblec King he certainly is the big improver and will go very close despite the awkward draw, add Oakvale Beauty along with Canya Chase for the First Four. Box up 5.6.7.8
Race 7 - Red Rock is in the powerful Steven White kennel, he is SA owned in the same interest as Sennachie, he won 2 runs back at Sandown in 29.88 back in June, he is resuming tonight and should go very close on the track that he loves. Whata Key returned to the winners circle last start with a strong win over the 600m, he will be at handy odds and cant be overlooked. Gemtree Dynamo and the inform Tornado Alley for the minors. Box Up 1.4.6.7
Race 8 - The 2019 TAB ADELAIDE CUP FINAL and what a line up we have in this, its pure speed and I’m sure we might see the Angle Park circuit on fire if one of the main chances land on the lure early.
1) Hooked On Scotch is drawn the rails, he is in the Jason Thompson kennel and won the Match Race Series here in 29.19 with only the 9 starts against his name he will need room to move early but with a clear run the big strider will take beating.
2) Whiskey Riot did a very good job to win his heat in a fast 29.45 from this draw, he has terrific box speed and is more than capable of going straight to the front early, if he does it will take something very strong to run down the Anthony Azzopardi trained sprinter.
3) Sennachie is a top quality sprinter, he is locally owned and is being trained in Victoria by Steven White, he has won 4 from 5 at this venue and 15 in total from his 26 starts with career earnings of over $500,000. He is a good beginner and has speed to burn if he is able to get on the lure early it will be very interesting to see what the clock stops at.
4) Fernando’s Riot is the 2nd of the Anthony Azzopardi runners, he flew the lids and led them a merry dance to beat Oakvale Beauty by 4L in a slick 29.55, he would need a lot of luck early to beat the inside 3 but is more than cable of causing a upset if able to lead.
5) Weblec King, he carved across the field from an outside draw here last week to qualify and win in 29.70, he certainly is a very smart performer but will need luck from the middle draw.
6) Cawbourne Terry is the only locally trained sprinter to make the final, he is in the Tony Rasmussen kennel and did a very good job to come from midfield to qualify when he was 2nd behind Spring Bridge, he looks to be the outsider but is certainly one to follow in easier events.
7) Spring Bridge is the 2nd of the Jason Thompson trained runners, he is owned locally and did an enormous job coming from near the tail of the field to rattle home and score in 29.61, he will be storming home late and is a must for the First Fours.
8) He’s For Me, he is in the Jeff Britton kennel who has won many feature events here in SA, he had this draw in the heats here last week when 2nd behind Whiskey Riot in 29.45, luck will play a big part where he finishes as the inside brigade are very smart performers and with only 37 starts beside his name he has done a terrific job to make a Group 1 final.
Box Up 1.2.3.7 - With my pick being Sennachie.
Race 9 - Superstar Chase is our top pick in this he looks the likely leader and has kept on improving in recent weeks. Surfing Dyno is the value runner, he is better suited when closer to the fence but his past couple have been very good. Box Up 2.4.7.38
Race 10 - Last week in the Cup heats Road Travelled was poleaxed in the run to the 1st turn, he can bounce back to his best form and loves a wide draw. Fantastic Bronx is a very smart performer and is the big danger. Box Up 1.2.4.8
Race 11 - The Ben Rawlings sprinter Miss Takiri has won 3 of her past 4, she has the early pace to cross and lead and should go very close. Billy Fix It is well drawn and has won his past 2 in good fashion, add Spring Glass who will be working home late. Box Up 1.2.4.7
Race 12 - It would be great to go home on a winning note and we can do that with Canya Queen, she has her paw on the till with recent placings and hopefully leads and wins. Classy Blaze has handy Gawler form and is drawn for a bold showing. Box Up 1.4.5.8

GRADING CHANGES FROM GRADING REVIEW PANEL HAVE STARTED
The main change from the GRP was that when a greyhound comes to SA and has won less than 5 races (1-4 wins) then it will be considered a Grade 6 even if it has won Grade 5 races (Metropolitan Grade 5 races (460m – 590m) in their State, however, this will affect Grade 6). There will be no retrospective grading for greyhounds already in SA with a starting date of the 9th September.
MOUNT GAMBIER TIME GRADING TO BE A MIX OF WINS FROM OCTOBER
After a request from the Mt Gambier GRC to change the format of their Time Grading events, GRSA has approved the change for their Thursday meetings from specific grades to a mix of race wins. From their meeting on Thursday, 3rd October and all other Time Graded meetings races will be Maidens, 1-4 wins and 5+ wins which will change from Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5.
Races will still be Non Penalty, with normal Time Graded prizemoney.
For Middle Distance (600m) and Distance (732m) racing, the GRSA Grader (using discretion), may choose to construct a field over these distances without regard for the number of wins of the greyhounds nominated, if in the opinion of the Grader the spread of Time Ratings warrants the running of that race.
NEW TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP FORM INCLUDES PROOF OF PURCHASE
Participants are advised that as from 1st September, 2019 a new Transfer of Ownership Form is to be completed if wanting to seek grading exemptions.
The new Form has a Proof of Purchase section, this requires purchasers to lodge documentation confirming the purchase of the greyhound or if no documentation is available then it is a requirement for the Statutory Declaration to be completed. If a Transfer of Ownership Form is lodged without the completion of this section then NO grading exemptions will be applied to the greyhound. The form is available on our website.
