TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It has finally arrived, the UBET 2016 Adelaide Cup Final, and what a quality final it is!  We have two  local performers in Worm Burner and Mrs Bubbles flying the flag for SA against six visitors from across the border.  As in recent big finals we have measured up and are more than capable of holding the $75,000 to the winner cheque here in SA.

Race 1 and it’s very hard to go past Fabregal, despite her poor draw of 4.  She has found a heap of trouble in recent runs but can ping the lids and win the opening event.  Dyna Keitaro will be hot on her heels and is a must for the trifecta, add in the in-form Rockstar Lisa and we shouldn’t miss.  Box Up 2.4.6.7.

Race 2, this is a good even race but I will go with Zipping Comet who has taken a liking to the fresh air here in Adelaide, he has won at both his starts since crossing the border and is drawn to win again.  Hotham Flyer is in top form and can’t be overlooked as is Scorching who has been missing the kick lately, but will be rattling home late.  Box UP 1.2.3.5.

Race 3 - Wheel Spinner started a very short priced favourite here last start and finished 3rd but he will bounce back from the perfect draw of 1 and salute for trainer Aussie Chegia.  Venture out wide for Allinga Val who is very slick with a clear run and appears the main danger.  Box UP 1.4.6.8.

Race 4 is the distance affair for the night and the 2016 Premiers Cup, with a more than handy $6,000 to the winner.  The interesting runners look to be Jed Monelli from WA and Nureyev, now in the care of astute trainer Ray Murray.  Both are sure to be well tried on their debut.  It’s hard to go past Springvale Bryne who is in terrific form and has a heap of early pace.  Go You Girl loves to fill a place and is worth putting in the First 4.  Box up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

Race 5 and I picked Marlow Brown last week in a quality heat of the Cup and he ran a solid 2nd behind One For Me after leading early, he can jump straight to the front and win this.  Ruff State is boxed for a bold showing and will be right in the mix.  Add in Winthrop Flyer for value.  Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 6, this is a 600m event and the two main chances look to be the pacey Eduardo and Texas Titan, who will be running on strongly, both are capable of carving out slick times with their different racing styles.  Cyclone Clifford is in fine form and can fill a placing on recent efforts.  Box UP 2.3.4.7.

Race 7 and Lachlan Brown has had his fair share of injuries and on recent form is slowly working back to his best.  He is boxed for a bold showing in this from box 7.  Skinny Bob can be hit and miss on box rise but is worth putting in the First 4 as is Junner Bale.  Box Up 3.5.6.7.

Race 8 the Final of the UBET 2016 Adelaide Cup and as mentioned before a whopping $75,000 to the winner. Worm Burner gave all the interstaters a big touch up when he won the National Sprint Championship here in August but he has been hit and miss of late out of the boxes and will need to be in the top 3 in the run to the first turn.  Mrs Bubbles is very strong and would have to be at her absolute best to cross from her wide draw of 7, but she is a place hope.

Benteke loves this circuit and is very smart on his last start win here on a very heavy track.  He is boxed to run a big race. Now who do I like in a big race??  We will go with the pacey Weekend Binge who has won 3 from 3 here on the Angle Park loam and has blistering early pace.  Was the winner of the SA Derby and he has won 16 of 24 and add 4 placings.  All in all it’s a top race and good luck to all owners and trainers for making the final.  Box UP 1.3.4.8.

Race 9 - Fusaichi Kahn appears a lot better suited in this company and looks the likely leader and should win from box 3, he is having his 111th start tonight and is one of the better bets of the night.  Hesa Jayclo is racing well and can figure in the trifecta as can Pelican Keeping.  Box Up 3.4.5.6.

Race 10, I like one here at each way odds in Optic Blast.  He has been on the improve in recent runs and can run a very cheeky race.  The main dangers will come from Collis Princess and Jules Marlow.  Box Up 3.4.6.8.

Race 11 on a huge night of racing and lets go home on a winner with the Tony Rasmussen trained Rockstar Billy.  He hasn’t missed a cheque in his last five starts and has the pace to kick up and win from his rails draw.  Inequity and Kiltys Shadow are drawn for bold showings.  Box Up 1.2.6.7.
