GRSA ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL INCREASE FOR 2014-15

In response to better than expected first quarter returns from wagering on South Australian greyhound racing product by national wagering operators, the Board of GRSA has resolved to make an additional allocation to industry returns.

With effect from November 10, the returns for Category 2 racing – which currently includes Monday night meetings at Angle Park and Tuesdays at Gawler – will increase by an average of 15% across all grades.  Allowing for the previous increases announced in July, this decision takes the total increase to industry returns in 2014-15 to more than $370,000 equating to 6% growth on the previous year.

Additional funding will also be provided to Strathalbyn, Mt Gambier, Port Augusta and the GOTBA to remove their dependence upon the charging of nomination fees for race meetings at those venues.  This initiative will not only satisfy a key objective within the 2012 Strategic Plan, but also reflects the Board’s belief that such charges represent an unreasonable burden on our participants.  On the basis of the current arrangements, the removal of nomination fees will result in an annual saving of $50,000 to participants at those venues.

GRSA Chairman Michael Fabbro said “the Board remains conscious of the need for prudence in relation to planned infrastructure investment.”

“Whilst the Gawler redevelopment and a one-turn track in the southern region constitute the highest priorities, the Board is constantly reviewing the opportunity that exists to elevate industry returns to any extent that is responsible and sustainable.” Mr. Fabbro said.

The following changes to category 2 stakemoney and the removal of all nomination fees will take effect from Monday 10th November, 2014.
