With the completion of the Annual Gawler Show, racing resumed at the Gawler circuit on Friday afternoon.

To win race 7 on the program, the Arclight Photography stake over the 400m journey, the trainer had to put in many hours just to get to the track. In the race, Esse Elle Kay led out of the 1 box from Flora Bothing (2) and Stitch Miss (7). Shortly after, Stitch Miss was able to cross to the front, leaving Flora Bothing in second position.

The runners in the race finished in that same order, with Flora Bothing unable to bridge the gap, allowing Stitch Miss to cross the line first in a handy time of 22.95 secs, and a winning margin of 3 ½ lengths. Flora Bothing ran second for Des Hockley of Lewiston and Uncle Montgomery (3) ran into third placing for Tony Lagana of Gawler River.

The winner, Stitch Miss is trained for Amy Bennett by Matthew Gray, who hails from Broken Hill, so to get to the Gawler track involves a long trip. As racing is not conducted every week in Broken Hill, to be serious about the sport, it involves regular travel to either SA or Victoria. The Grays are regular visitors to Gawler and the long trip paid off for them this time around.

Trainer Christine Smith had a good day at the office, with two of her runners for the day, Kouta Reg and Werburgh saluting and her other two charges both ran second. Daughter Robyn Mackellar chipped in as well, with Scoobalicious successful.

Racing is back to it’s normal schedule with every Tuesday afternoon, and a Sunday twilight on the 15th September.
