A greyhound that runs consistently without winning too often, finally broke through for another win at Gawler greyhounds on Tuesday.

In The Bunyip Stake over 531m, Jungle Bark from box 7 bounced away the best to lead from Dyna Yuna (7) and Caviar Noir (8), which was running out wide.

Around the first turn, and Jungle Bark had zoomed out to a 5 length break, with Redeeming (5) quickly moving around the rest of the field to get into second position. Redeeming quickly made up ground on the leader and by the 643m boxes, he had gone past the leader, going on to win by 5 lengths in a good time of 30.81 secs. Jungle Bark was second for Rob Versteeg of Merbein, Victoria with Bubba Ray Dudley third for Karen Bearpark of Two Wells.

Redeeming is a black dog trained by Karen Wittholz of Lewiston for husband Mike, Bob Taplin, Ashley Harvie and Bob May.” Diesel” is one of those greyhounds that needs things to go his way to do his best. A wide draw suits him as he is able to find his way around the field without copping interference, and this trait explains why he has recorded just 4 wins but 21 placings from 50 starts. The extra distance suited him as well, as he is always looking to run on when he can get clear. Now that he is running over the extra distance and with a bit of confidence under his belt, maybe he can score another win in the near future.

Lisa Rasmussen, a regular multi winner at the track, collected a double when Uandah Bale and She’s So Vain were both successful.

The work on the new facility at the track is due to commence shortly, and this will affect some racing dates, so please check on gawlergreyhounds.com for a current calendar. Until advised, racing will continue on Tuesday afternoons, with a Friday afternoon meeting on the 30th May.
