A satisfying treble at Gawler on Tuesday
A SATISFYING TREBLE
Meatloaf once sang that “2 out of 3 ain’t bad”, so I guess”3 out of 4” has to be even better. That was the result when a trainer was able to score three winners from only four that they took to Gawler greyhounds on Tuesday afternoon.
The first win came in the Adelaide Plains Veterinary Services Stake run over the 400m distance. When they jumped, Road Train from box 3 narrowly led the reserve runner Dyer’s Dancer (1) and Chilli In White (4), but the positions soon changed.
Tahni Bale (8) surged to the lead from Kenta Bale (5) and Vintage Star (7), but nearing the back turn, Beach Lion (6) which had been one of the last out, started putting in a strong effort to run into third position. Rounding the home turn, Beach Lion forced it’s way through on the rails to pass Tahni Bale and go on to win by nearly 4 lengths in the time of 23.35 secs.
Kenta Bale which has a consistent record at Gawler, ran second for Lisa Rasmussen of Murray Bridge, while Tahni Bale finished third for Wendy Matcott also of Murray Bridge.
Beach Lion is trained by Bosko Stamenkovic of Two Wells and raced in partnership with Christine Costa. The fawn brindle dog has a good record, having scored 4 wins and 4 placings from just 11 race starts, and is from Bosko and Christine’s great bitch, Bothing, who still holds the 643m race record at Gawler, set in 2006.
The second winner came in the Greyhound Adoption Program Stake over 531m , when How Cool’s Harry, which had been near the lead the whole race, won by over a length in 31.32 secs. The final win of the treble came in the final race, the Arclight Photography Stake over 531m, with Koombooyana Boy winning by 2 lengths in 31.05 secs. Koombooyana Boy has just had his fourth birthday and like How’s Cool Harry, had been retired after suffering injuries. Christine said that both dogs had both indicated that they getting a bit bored at home and wanted to get back to the race track.
So after a break and with plenty of care and patience from Bosko and Christine, both of them are now back racing. Christine said her expectation of their greyhounds is to bring them back home again, and that winning is “pretty cool”. Producing a treble must make it extremely cool.
Murray Bridge based Tony Rasmussen was the only other trainer to bring in a multiple, with Sienna Bale and Allen Kenny both winning
Racing at Gawler is running to a different schedule in December, but still racing every Tuesday. two of these meetings are Christmas and New Year’s Eve, so if you haven’t been for a while, it is something special to do in the holidays. In addition there is racing on Sunday 22nd (twilight) and Friday 27th (afternoon).
