SALE GRAZE BINDI UPSETS RIVALS TO BOOK HER SPOT TO PERTH
In cold, wet and wintery conditions Sale Graze Bindi for trainer Tony Rasmussen caused one of the upsets of the season to win her way to Perth for the National Distance final after she outstayed the best SA had to offer last night at Angle Park.
A greyhound that is always running on in her races, Sale Graze Bindi began slowly but quickly pushed up on the inside to be racing third as the field entered the front straight on the first occasion looking a huge threat. Equilibrium for Troy Murray led them up early looking to recapture his very best form from 12 months ago when he was considered a staying star in the making while West On Bamboo settled into second spot. In a wide open betting race race favourites Master Chaos for Irene Rehmann and Saldana for Judi Hurley were back in the field after average beginnings. Entering the back straight after one lap Equilibrium was making every post a winner and lead by just over a length from West On Bamboo with Sale Graze Bindi back in third another length away with the trio opening up a sizable gap back to More Rum Bateman for Kevin Murnane who started to make ground out wide. Prior to turning for home Equilibrium was challenged on the inside by Sale Graze Bindi who had quickly past West On Bamboo for second and shortly after raced to the front turning for home. From a mile back More Rum Bateman swept up on the outside into second spot but couldn’t bridge the gap with Sale Graze Bindi going on for a strong win. My Boy Bean also flew home along the rails and pinched third spot from West On Bamboo who battled on well into 4th just ahead of Equilibrium.
Sale Graze Bindi showed that she stay all day and ran a solid 44.33 for the 731m journey and those who took the $21 would have been very happy when she made her way to third in the early stages, whilst not the quickest time ever ran the weather conditions played a huge part in affecting the times.
Sale Graze Bindi has now won 8 races with 23 placing’s from 61starts and around $38,000 in prizemoney. She has drawn box 6 in the final and will represent SA at the National Championships to be held at Cannington in Western Australia on Saturday 24th August.
EBBY LAMAR TAKES OUT THE NATIONAL SPRINT
Ebby Lamar kept his perfect record from box 1 intact last night at Angle Park when he made it 4 from 4 from the red when he won the State final of the National Sprint Championship at headquarters.
In doing so he gave trainer Colin Swain one of his biggest wins of his career and will now head off to Perth against the best Australia has to offer at the Nationals.
Ebby Lamar, Canya Chase for Tony Rasmussen and Fantastic Yankee for Elizabeth Chegia were sent out as the favourites for the State final in another high quality field. As the start was affected Ebby Lamar began well and pushed hard to the first turn with both Dyna Adria for Lisa Rasmussen and Gemtree Dynamo for Irene Rehmann also beginning smartly. Canya Chase was moderately away while Fantastic Yankee missed the kick but showed quick acceleration to push through the middle and make a line of four at the winning post on the first occasion. Racing was tight however Ebby Lamar made full use of the inside and ran to the front into the back straight, Dyna Adria moved to second but was quickly challenged by No Passengers around the outside for Tony Rasmussen. Off the back straight and Ebby Lamar was going strongly in the lead, No Passengers ran to second however didn’t seem to be making ground quick enough while Canya Chase was beginning to motor from midfield moving to third and checking of heels as they turned for home. In the charge to the post Ebby Lamar was doing enough and went on to win by just over a length in a handy 30.43 from Canya Chase who charged home late and could have finished a touch closer if he hadn’t found traffic in the run while No Passengers held on well for third.
Ebby Lamar has now won 17 races from 39 starts, with 10 minor placings and about $31,000 in prizemoney. We wish Ebby Lamar and Colin the best of luck on the big stage in WA but will have the job ahead of him after drawing box 8 in the final.
