Last night at Angle Park it was a family affair for SA’s two age restricted classic features with brother Nervous An Weird taking out the Group 3 SA Derby and sister My American Girl claiming the Group 3 SA Oaks for Victorian trainer Ashlee Terry making it a night to remember for the young trainer.

My American Girl showed her class with a brilliant display of high speed when she blistered across the field from box 8 to lead the high quality female line up. She ran the first split in a sizzling 4.39 and once she found the lead she was in no danger of defeat going on to win by over 4 lengths in a flying 29.71 for the 515m journey. Both locals Shima Breeze for Tony Rasmussen and Alicante Bouchet put up strong efforts to finish in the placings after racing up near the lead.

The $25,000 first prize took My American Girls’ prizemoney to just under $48,000 and the impressive record of 10 wins and 7 placings from her 19 lifetime starts.

My American Girl is owned by the Sparkle And Shade Syndicate with Ashlee one of the members. She is by Barcia Bale out of Father Of Mine and is one of 11 in the litter and who knew 45 minutes later big brother Nervous An Weird would be enjoying the same success.

The BGC SA Derby final again showcased some of the best young male chasers in the land with a hot field lining up for the Group 3 feature but it was the Ashlee Terry night when Nervous An Weird claimed the top prize.

Nervous An Weird after a brilliant heat win last week and drawing nicely in box 2 was sent out a heavily backed warm favourite. He sizzled early claiming the front from South East speedster Smart Knocka for Tracie Price and like his sister gave nothing else a chance blistering around the Angle Park loam in a fantastic 29.68 in winning by almost 2 lengths. He defeated Smart Knocka who was brave in defeat and Spring Bridge for Greg Board who again was doing his best work at the finish charging home for third.

Nervous An Weird now boasts the impressive record of 16 starts for 11 wins and 3 placings and prizemoney past $53,000.

It was terrific to see the joy and emotion of the connections on the presentation dais where brother and sister achieved a rare feat on a fabulous night for the Terry kennel.
