2018 Kings And Queens Final - Review
Another Thursday night and another feature race win for Tony Rasmussen and his team at Angle Park last night. The purple patch of form that Tony has been in recent months continued when exciting chaser Menzali showed a strong will to win in the 2018 Kings And Queen s Final when he wore down Abuzz in the shadows of the post.
The son of Barcia Bale and Born Ali started a very short priced favourite on the back of his brilliant win in his heat last week however after Abuzz for Cameron Butcher exploded out of the boxes to lead clearly with Menzali battling to hold second, things did not look good. Racing down the back straight Abuzz was in full flight out by 4 lengths however Menzali gritted his teeth and came out after Abuzz strongly with Dyna Quail for Lisa Rasmussen holding down third. As heads turned for home Abuzz drifted up the track with Menzali charged through the inside to claim victory right on the line by a head in a scintillating performance.
Menzali was crowned the King running a flying 29.81 for the 515m journey and also continued the run of success owners Tim Aloisi and Matt Lehman have been having with their greyhounds. Abuzz ran another excellent race in to second with Dyna Quail filling third placing for the Queens.
Menzali has now won 12 races with 15 placings from 39 starts with career prizemoney just over $32,000.
Greyhound Racing SA introduced the Kings and Queens Feature series two years ago in support of those greyhounds affected by the change to the GCA Age Restricted Classics from 30 months back down to 27 months for this years upcoming SA Oaks and SA Derby series to be run next Thursday night.
