2018 BRIAN JOHNSTONE FINAL – REVIEW
Jack Get Back for trainer Ken Trowbridge caused a minor upset in the Group 3 Brian Johnstone Final at Angle Park tonight when he was able to gun down Victa Ashley for Mike Giniotis in the shadows of the post and claim victory.
Jack Get Back was sent out at $23.00 in the Group 3 classic based around the depth of high quality young SA Bred chasers engaged who were all looking to claim the $26,000 first prize.
Jack Get Back began well from box 3 in an even dispatch and was able to find the early lead sitting just off the fence however this allowed a run for Victa Ashley to rail hard to take up the front running. Into the back straight and Victa Ashley kicked clear flying down the back straight and opening up a handy margin from his rivals. Jack Get Back was being challenged by Time’s Right for Cameron Butcher for second however off the back straight he kicked clear of Time’s Right and set out after the tear away leader as the remainder of the field packed up in behind. Turning for home Jack Get Back well and truly had Victa Ashley in his sits and he charged past him in the shadows of the post to score a memorable victory for the Trowbridge kennel. Victa Ashley ran a bold race for second 1 ¼ lengths way while Axel Footluce also for Ken Trowbridge flashed home late on the inside for third another 4 lengths away.
Jack Get Back is by Kinloch Brae and Footluce Diva with Ken Trowbridge training 3 of the 8 finalists all from the same litter. He ran a solid 30.01 for the 515m journey and has now won 6 races from 17 starts and 8 minor placings and prizemoney around $36,000.
Jack Get Back is locally bred by Melissa Trowbridge and is owned by both Melissa and Ken.
This event was introduced in recognition of former Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club Chairman, Brian Johnstone who passed away 10 years ago. Brian was a true ambassador and great administrator for SA greyhound racing. He was involved with Angle Park from the early days and served many, many years on the Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club Committee.
