The early bird gets the worm – well in Real Simple’s case it was early speed wins an Adelaide Cup heat and that is exactly the outcome trainer Seona Thompson wanted from her in-from sprinter, Real Simple.

Jumping as the TAB’s $2.60 favourite over South Australian up-and-commer Smart Knocker, Real Simple jumped from box two and stopped the click in a sizzling 4.38sec to the first mark – the second fastest first sectional in the meeting by 0.01sec.

“Even though he hadn’t seen the track before his heat I was still confident because of his early speed,” trainer Seona Thompson said.

The son of Collision and Unbelief is in a strong run of form with three consecutive wins under his belt. Sandown started his winning streak with a best of the night 29.61sec win which was followed by The Meadows in 30.20sec.

“Real Simple is not the strongest greyhound but he has shown he has a really big heart and a will to win.”

Matt Lanigan’s chaser Zipping Inglis finished fourth in Real Simple’s heat after missing the start from box one. “The key to success at Angle Park is early speed which why we entered Real Simple. The track is harder for a dog like Aston Kimetto who chooses not to use his early speed.”

Aston Kimetto jumped from box two in his Adelaide Cup heat, finishing third to Fabwik, who flew out of box one to produce an all-the-way win.

Real Simple has drawn box three in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup, which will be run this Thursday night at Angle Park.

“I am wrapped with box three. I think he will get room early, which will give him every opportunity to use his early speed,” Thompson said.

Other heats winners were all South Australian trained, Fabwik recorded the fastest heat win of 29.48 defeating Bogie Bullet. The Bullet is one of two finalists for trainer Ben Rawlings winner the fourth heat with Alpha Aion in 29.78.

Honcho Monelli won his heat in 29.74 defeating Larrikin Locky both dogs make the final for the Rasmussen camp of Tony and Lisa. Master Chaos was the other heat winner in 29.93 with Spring Bridge finishing second to Real Simple also making the final.
