2016 MICHAELKRIS REALESTATE GAWLER GOLD CUP – REVIEW

On an overcast night a good crowd was on hand to see Fabregal for trainer Robyn Mackellar take out her second Group final for the year. Back in April she flew the flag for SA in Queensland when she won the Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity at Albion Park and now adds the Group 3 Gawler Cup to her growing list of achievements. She loves the Gawler circuit and is undefeated over the 531m winning her 10th race last night at the venue.

 

The daughter of Fabregas and Allinga Aye Jay opened equal favourite with Marlow Brown for Paula Hearnden however was strongly supported into outright favoritism just prior to the start. The good judges were on the money as the lids flew open with Fabregal getting the jump on her main rival to bounce to the front and from there was never headed. Fabregal ran a slick 30.63 with splits of 3.18 and 15.82 going onto win by 1 ½ lengths from Marlow Brown who again performed terrifically in the strongest of company. Victorian chaser Zipping Quinsee for young trainer Matthew Lanigan ran home nicely into third another 3 ½ lengths away. 

Fabregal after Sunday nights success took her prizemoney to just over $140,000 and the impressive record of 27 wins and 17 placings from her 47 lifetime starts. As part of the SA Bred Super Bonus scheme her breeder receives $3,500 for her Group 3 success.

 

She also added another $13,000 for her owners as a bonus for her winning the Gawler Produce in July and then the Gawler Cup as part of the Produce conditions. Interestingly she also beat Marlow Brown in the Gawler Produce Final back in July with a terrific rivalry now building.

The Gawler Sprint Classic final was won Emerley Senorita for Judi Hurley in a terrific training performance with Emerley Senorita being retired, having had a litter of pups back in April and was that keen to race again Judi put her back into work. The Gawler Stayers Cup was taken out by Texas Titan for Nathan Wilson while last years Gawler Cup winner It’s Classified returned to his best form to take out the Cup consolation.
