2016 COFFEX COFFEE OAKS REVIEW

Last night at Angle Park Pepper Fire prepared by Victorian trainer Jeff Britton stepped into the limelight after some consistent form in her home state when she showed her potential by taking out the Group 3 Coffex Coffee SA Oaks.

She is by Spiral Nikita and West On Bluebird and is a sister to Times Square who ran third in the Group 1 National Sprint Final and was unlucky to be first reserve for last night’s Oaks Final. Whilst it seems Times Square has established herself on the National stage it was Pepper Fire’s turn last night.

Pepper Fire started double eachway odds from box 3 last night and after a quick beginning she quickly moved into second spot with the nippy Wynburn Toozie racing to the front as the field left the front straight. Local hope Fabregal moved into a handy position along with Shelly Keeping while race favourite Fanta Bale got caught wide on the track and was shuffled back to last. Leaving the back straight Wynburn Toozie was beginning to shorten stride while Pepper Fire looked to be full of running as she ranged up on the apex of the bend. Meanwhile Shelly Keeping, Fabregal and Brazen Bomber from the rear all continued to make good ground. As heads turned for home Pepper Fire put her paw to the floor and raced to the lead, charging to the finish line a brilliant winner in a slick 29.86 for the 515m journey. She defeated Shelly Keeping by 2 lengths that also got home nicely while Fabregal continued her excellent form by grabbing third only a few lengths away. Brazen Bomber rocketed home to grab fourth while Wynburn Toozie who went very quick early battled into fifth spot. Race favourite Fanta Bale had no luck from the boxes to finish in 6th spot and was also found to be slightly injured in the run so she can certainly be forgiven for her failure last night.

Pepper Fire has now won 6 races from her 23 starts with 13 minor placing’s with prizemoney of just over $50,000.
