2015 SA ST LEGER – BOX DRAW

Two exciting semi-finals were conducted last night at Angle Park where the first four from each race qualified for next week’s St Leger final. Out of the eight greyhounds three trainers have qualified greyhounds. Wendy Matcott has four greyhounds engaged, Cameron Butcher has three and Vadim Roz has one. It is a terrific training performance by both Wendy and Cameron in particular to have multiple runners make one of our feature finals.

The first semi-final was taken out by the Wendy Matcott trained Fraya Bale who made full use of her inside box to jump on the early lead running a sizzling 4.35 first split. From there she was never really challenged going on to record a solid win by 2 ½ lengths in a blistering 29.85 from kennel mate Dyna Motley who ran home well into second. Both Coorong Kid and Parsec Bale both made up late ground to secure their spots in the final. Fraya Bale now has won 4 of her last 5 starts and looms as a strong winning chance despite drawing the extreme outside but with her brilliant speed she should be right in the firing line early.

The second semi-final was taken out in impressive fashion by Young Gun McBain for trainer Vadim Roz who is experiencing a purple patch of form with his kennel. Young Gun McBain began nicely from box 4 and was able to power past Spicy Peppa as they entered the back straight. From there he held on well to record a comfortable victory by 1 ¾ lengths in a solid 29.90 defeating Spicy Peppa who never gave in with both Dodger I Am and Dyna Drama getting home well wide out on the track to fill the minor money. Young Gun McBain continues to race well and looks one of the main contenders next week along with Spicy Peppa who has drawn much better in the red and looks the likely leader.

Its shaping as a terrific race for some of our most promising young chasers who will hopefully take the next step into open company in the coming months. The race has plenty of early speed and greyhounds who can really charge home so luck in running will play a huge part.  Good luck to all connections concerned.
