2015 Gawler Gold Cup Heats Preview
Tuesday night see’s the running of the illustrious Gawler Cup at the newly upgraded and refurbished track. There are 6 heats in total with 14 interstate travellers boasting good versatility winning from 400 to 700 metres and accumulating nearly one million dollars in prize money between them making the trip down to take on the best South Australia has to offer. With 6 heats we will see all heat winners as well as the 2 fastest seconds making what promises to be a Steller final with the 3rd and 4th fastest seconds making the reserves.
Heat One
Great first heat to start, with the Doug Payne memorial winning Punishment returning to his favoured track, but he will be up against it with the likes of the Troy and Ray Murray trained Aston Wingard and Kalden Gambino. The Murrays are no strangers to the Cup and have won it enough times to always be a threat. We also see the very smart Weston East drawn out in box 7, this Angela Langton trained youngster has recorded fast times a multiple tracks and the always Consistent Gun Mcbain won’t be far off the mark as well.
Heat Two
As all the heats will be this to brings a good strong field together with the interstate runners or Sunday Shoes former 30.50 winner at Gawler and Smart Maxwell most likely to head the betting, but our locals will be no push overs with Van Carrho Flash and Gawler loving Fire Tyson very likely to show great early speed. Zipping Bart for Jarrod Murray can easily break the 31.00 barrier as can Rum Punch.
Heat 3
The visitors look hard to beat in heat 3 with Cornelius Fudge drawing box 1, he has accumulated the most prize money out of any other runner in the Cup thus far for trainer Lisa Cockerell and will be a strong chance, former Derby Finalist Wind Whistler has a good showing as does Echelonic Action, With Farmeroo and the John Gray memorial winning My Party looking the next best.
Heat 4
Kalden Kapone looks to be your leader here and will take some catching if does so, but Oakvale Flyer who has recorded some blistering times at several different tracks and possibly the strongest interstate contender Go Mobo with over a 35% winning strike rate chasing he will need to be. Strathalbyn Cup finalist Who’s Doing What and Cash In Looper could cause the boil over.
Heat 5
We see the return of the lone interstate runner in this heat, and Adelaide Cup finalist Texas Titan return to the city of churches drawn out in box 8 in a field packed with top locals that may test him. This includes the 2014 Greyhound of the Year Wild Souls returning to the track nice and fresh for Kim Johnstone as well Kalden Balerion who is currently enjoying a strings of wins, as well as the very well-drawn Allen Zentax who’s been running sub 30.00 comfortably at Angle Park and Sound Effort who will show some early dash.
Heat 6
The Last Heat see’s another Adelaide Cup finalist return but this time with a new trainer, Blurred Lines for trainer Ben Rawlings, who also has a Gawler Cup win already under his belt draws box 1 and is likely to make another big final and will show good early speed along with Galilee Spirit. Fellow visitor Mechatronic can’t be without a hope; neither can Big Zap, possibly the best boxed dog in all the heats Set The Scene and former Gawler Produce winner Regal Lopper aren’t without a hope.
There’s no doubt that Tuesday night will bring some amazing races, you just have to look at some of the dogs that didn’t get a mention here to know the quality of the heats and the final will be a hot field and will produce an deserving winner. Hope to see you down there.
