2015 BRIAN JOHNSTONE FINAL – REVIEW

Meningie Trainer Cameron Butcher’s run of local feature events continued with Worm Burner taking out the Group 3 Brian Johnstone final at Angle Park last night.

Most punters were of the opinion that Butcher’s star bitch She’s A Looper would take out the feature final starting a red hot favourite but she was upstaged by her brother Worm Burner who claimed the $25,000 first prize.

As the boxes flew open She’s A Looper went up with the lids bombing the start and finding trouble on the first turn putting pay to her chances meanwhile her kennel mate Worm Burner began nicely from the 8 and ran to the front. Springvale Bryne for Gavin Harris, Jack Walker for Petar Jovanovic and Rhynstone Ashley for Michael Stewart were all in hot pursuit. Down the back Worm Burner extended his lead impressively with Springvale Bryne keeping second as they raced away from the remainder of the field. Setting sail for home Worm Burner was in no danger going on to record a strong win in a sizzling 29.50 with Springvale Bryne running a super race into second. Rhynstone Ashley out stayed Jack Walker to grab third right on the line. Both semi final winners Eduardo and She’s A Looper can be forgiven for their runs as they both found big trouble on the first turn and look to have a bright future ahead.

Worm Burner has now won 10 races from his 14 starts including 2 minor placings and prizemoney just over $35,000.
