2013 THE BUNYIP GAWLER GOLD CUP – BOX DRAW

Six fabulous heats of the 2013 The Bunyip Gawler Gold Cup were conducted last night with the fastest qualifier for the Group 3 final being the Kathy Johnstone trained speedster Encosta Kahn who dominated his heat in a brilliant 30.84 when he was able to lead throughout from box 8. He has drawn nicely in box 2 for the final and looks the one to beat with his speed and stamina. Emerging trainer Ben Rawlings continued with his successful season so far with both Bogie Magic (who also won a heat in 2012) and Bogie Prince winning through to the Group 3 final Sunday night with impressive victories. Cameron Butcher also continued his purple patch of form when Right Time claimed the fourth heat in fine fashion rating a handy 30.95 for the 531m journey. Right Time has seemingly lived in the shadow of 2012 Greyhound of the Year Hope’s Up for most of his career however Sunday night could be the night he shows his true ability. Troy Murray who has dominated the Gawler Cup in recent times winning four of the last nine Cups qualified Kalden Kurageous who held on for a courageous victory from the fast finishing Kaylarikki in a solid 30.97. Kaylarikki for Ray Burgess also qualified as one of the fastest two second placegetter along with Senni Tony for Colin Swain who ran second in a blanket finish in heat 3 behind Victa Victoria for Ron Shadow. Victa Victoria has been running in middle distance events recently however does love the Gawler circuit and flashed home in a slick 30.95 to win, with the red box she has to be given a top chance. Showing the quality of the series the two reserves for Sundays final is Kalden Kapone and Just Shine and if there is a scratching in the final either greyhound would be well in the market.

The heat winners and their times were:

Heat 1 – Encosta Kahn        30.84

Heat 2 – Bogic Magic         31.11

Heat 3 – Victa Victoria       30.95

Heat 4 – Right Time              30.95

Heat 5 – Kalden Kurageous 30.97
