Young guns sizzle at The Bridge
Michelle Moon unearths an impressive Maiden winner
Friday Meeting
On an early start to the Friday meeting with the warm weather coming in, we saw some quick times run on the card.
The Liz Chegia trained My Silver Spoon collected his first South Australian win, with a sharp performance over the 455m trip. From box one, the blue dog came out running and was given plenty of room to hustle through along the rail. Heading into the turn, he was pressured from his outside and had to give up the lead, but that didn’t deter him. Around the turn he really started to fight back and was able to work his way through to the lead again at the top of the straight. Once in front, he was strong through the line and won well in 25.51, which was also the best of the day.
Time To Fire is quickly emerging as a chaser with a big future and she showed just how strong she is, with a powerful win over the 530m trip. After jumping cleanly from box one, she barged through underneath runners and went to an early lead. Down the back straight, her pace saw her extend to a clear lead, with the race seemingly in her control. The four length margin she set up down the back, never closed as she held it the entire way around, before going on to win in a very sharp 29.85. With just five starts to her name and now two victories, she is certainly progressing well and her future looks to be quite bright, particularly over the middle distance.
Tuesday meeting
With another warm afternoon, we had 12 races run up the straight.
The Michelle Moon trained Yarramundi Zena (Shima Shine x Spring Lilac) showed a lot of improvement from her first start, to take out her maiden victory over the 300m distance. From box two, she came out quickly and went to the early lead. She was given plenty of room to work with along the rail and she made the most of it, getting to a clear and dominant lead towards the line. It was a real one act affair from the black bitch as she won by a widening 10 lengths in 16.98. A huge effort and one that certainly made a few punters happy as she was very well backed and on the strength of that run, she will be winning quite a few more yet up the straight.
Lorraine Goodwin landed a very smart winner in the form of Lust To Burn, who ran a near best of the day 16.73. From box seven over the short trip, the fawn bitch came out beautifully and went straight to the early lead. With such a good start, she went out to a clear three length lead midrace and was looking pretty good. She was never in any danger and held her margin through the finish line to win by a couple of lengths. That win would have certainly made the trip over from Hamilton a worthwhile one!
