The Bridge set to shine on National Saturday
Murray Bridge to be in National Spotlight
Murray Bridge will be on the National stage as it plays host to the Group 3 National Straight Track Championship on the morning of Saturday August 24.
The Group 3 race is part of the Greyhound Clubs Australia National Championships with finals of the National Sprint and Distance Championship run at Angle Park on Saturday night.
The newest addition to the Nationals program is the Straight Track which will be run in South Australia for the first time with Murray Bridge’s unique two-track facility to be the host.
The venue is the only one of its kind in Australia currently and the racing program schedule for Saturday morning will see both the straight and one-turn track used as a showcase for the venue.
More than 100 interstate visitors are set to grace the region on Saturday and Murray Bridge Greyhound Racing Club president John Kluske said they couldn’t wait to showcase the venue and the city.
“We are thrilled to welcome the greyhound racing community to our beautiful city of Murray Bridge for the first time for the Nationals,” Kluske said.
“The venue at Murray Bridge is world class and we are looking forward to showcasing it to the local community.”
On the track, South Australia will hold a strong hand in the final with three chances set to take on the runners from Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.
So Be It for trainer Bosko Stamenkovic won the South Australian qualifier last week and has won its last four races down the straight at Murray Bridge and boasts a career record of 12 wins and two places from 15 starts.
Cash On Delivery will also represent SA and was the 2023 SA Short Course Greyhound of the Year and recently won the $75,000 Thunderbolt at Grafton in New South Wales while Myall Ray for Mount Gambier based trainer Tracie Price will also feature.
“The SA qualifiers were very strong and we have terrific representation in the final next week,” Kluske said.
“South Australia is yet to claim the National Straight Track Final and it would be great to break the drought on our home track.’
Racing kicks off at 8:30am on Saturday morning with the National final to be the last race on the program at 11:00am with breakfast and coffee options on course and Kluske hoped for a strong local crowd.
“It would be great to have a strong local crowd on course to support our local greyhounds and we hope to see as many people as possible at the track on Saturday.”
